By: Jonathan Murray MyrtleTalk.com Staff Legends Resort is one of Myrtle Beach most popular golf destinations. The resort boasts three 18 hole layouts, each with a unique design by their respective architects. Each course utilizes four sets of tees for golfers of all levels. Centrally located just off of Highway 501N, The Legends resort is easy to find and even easier to enjoy. Upon entering the property, just after the last curve on Legends drive, the first thing that comes into view is their massive clubhouse, one of the best in the area. Once you’ve found a place to park, sometimes hard to do, the rest of your experience here will be hard to forget. Before you go out to play, be sure to take advantage of their practice areas. The driving range is one of the best around, and don’t worry, it is plenty big with space for 50 or more golfers and upwards of 15 target greens from 60 to 250 yards. And did I mention it’s lighted? Additionally they have two separate greens for chipping and putting. The chipping green, which is just off the driving range, has two bunkers and lies of all sorts to hit from. The putting green is a massive 50,000 sq. ft. with ridges and slopes to mimic any putt you will find on the course. So get there early and get a warm up in because every shot on these three courses will demand your full attention. The three courses are all maintained with exceptional quality, and that’s one of their few similarities. Each course has its own unique layout and feel. Although they are carved out of the same terrain, they are very different. The Heathland course was one of the original two here at legends. Sculpted by architect Tom Doak, Heathland is reminiscent of an old British links course. At 6800 from its back tees, it has some length but the real battle is the wind. This course is open to the elements with thick rough and deep bunkers all around. Shot making comes at a premium, but if you catch it on a calm day, a good score can be had. The Mooreland course, considered the toughest by most, can be stretched to 6755 yards. The other of the original two, Mooreland was created by architect P.B Dye. Rolling fairways, elevated greens, deep bunkers and it fair share of water give you plenty to maneuver. This course demands accuracy. The Parkland course is the resorts longest at just over 7100 yards from the back tees. With a different feel than the other courses, Parkland has a New England type feel. Its fairways roll with the terrain but are lined with thick forest. The greens are expansive and multi-tiered so attack the pins because on these greens there are no easy two putts. In the peak season, all three courses will run you about $130, which is the average price for a course of this quality. But if you are looking to vacation here, you can save some major dollars by looking into their stay and play packages. There are not many courses in the Myrtle Beach area that will exceed the quality of any of these three. It is one of Myrtle’s most popular for that very reason. Course Value 8/10: Doesn’t get much better than these three courses. Course Design 9/10: With three options, there is something here for every golfer. Fairway Condition 9/10: Very well maintained through-out all months of the year. Green Condition 7.5/10: Grain does play a factor in these greens, and sometimes they are a little slow. Overall Condition 8/10: The rough is still growing but soon all three will be 10’s. Amenities 9/10: Expansive practice areas, restaurant, bar and patio.
