By: Jonathan Murray MyrtleTalk.com Staff River Oaks Golf Plantation is a course for golfers of all levels. With easy access just off highway 501 and its cheaper greens fees, River Oaks is a very popular course in the area. There are three 9-hole layouts spread over 800+ acres. All three courses are roughly 3400 yards from the back tees, but don’t worry if that’s too long because River Oaks sets up 5 tees on all three courses. Named after the animals on the property as the course was being developed, the Bear, the Otter, and the Fox are the three courses at River Oaks. Like most courses in the Myrtle Beach area, water is all around. The Bear is the worst with water on all 9 holes. The other two however have water, but not as much in play. This course isn’t going to wow you with amenities. They have a small, house like clubhouse, with a small pro shop and small bar area. But that’s not what they are about. If want to come out and just play some golf, this course is perfect. They have some decent practice greens as well as a public driving range. The conditions here are pretty good. They do a decent job maintaining it. The greens are generally small and the fairways aren’t incredibly wide, adding to the difficulty of the relatively basic courses. River Oaks is a good value. You get what you pay for. You will get an average round of golf for a great price. If you go there expecting Augusta, you will be very disappointed. Go there with your friends or your kids and you’ll have another great day in Myrtle Beach. Course Value 8/10: Good golf for the price. Course Design 6.5/10: Nothing jumps out at you, but you still have to make golf shots. Fairway Condition 7/10: well maintained Green Condition 7/10: Decent condition, putts roll pretty well Overall Condition 6.5/10: The rough is still growing in but overall these courses are formidable Amenities 6/10: Small clubhouse, decent little driving range River Oaks Golf Plantation 831 River Oaks Drive Myrtle Beach, SC 29577 843-236-2222 www.Riveroaksgolfplantation.com
